Larry is the owner of Hagen Consulting Services, LLC: a very large one-man firm (Larry is one very large man, and he is the firm – www.VeryLargeOneManFirm.com). He has worked in the public sector, the private sector, and academia. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and a former board member of the Florida Section of ITE, serving as President in 2002. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. He is a registered professional engineer in Florida and Georgia, and is a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and a certified Road Safety Professional. He has over 30 years of experience doing transportation engineering work throughout the state of Florida. His experience includes traffic signal design, signal timing optimization on corridors and networks, serving on the team responsible for the testing and development of SunPass, traffic simulation, signing and pavement marking designs, work zone traffic control, implementation of traffic signal preemption for railroad crossings and emergency vehicles, signal priority for transit vehicles, and a variety of traffic safety research projects. He also has taught “Traffic Engineering Fundamentals,” “Road Safety Audits,” “Low-Cost Safety Solutions,” “Safe Mobility for Life,” “Advanced Maintenance of Traffic,” and other workshops for the University of Florida Technology Transfer Center (Florida LTAP Center). Larry also previously served as Traffic Signal System Engineer for Broward County. He is currently working as a consultant to FDOT Districts 4, 6, and 7 in the area of roadway safety, is working with FDOT District 2 in performing Road Safety Audits, and is working with the Puerto Rico Highway and Transportation Authority on the development and implementation of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan for Puerto Rico. Hagen Consulting Services has been approved by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers as a provider of professional development hours for continuing education of Professional Engineers in Florida.
